I’m Aaron Chester, a former English teacher turned pastor, living and serving in Alexandria, Indiana—a small town with big stories and deep roots. I pastor Alexandria First Church of the Nazarene, where I invite others to trust the story God is telling, even when it’s strange or unfinished.

reader. writer. wonderer. teacher.

For sixteen years, I taught literature and writing to high schoolers—where I came to see that real learning happens when we slow down, ask better questions, and stay curious. These days, I still teach, just in different ways: from the pulpit, in my writing, and through conversations that refuse to settle for the easy answer.

what you’ll find here

This site is a gathering place for the things that matter to me and, hopefully, to you:

  • Blog Posts that explore theology, storytelling, strange histories, and the collision between wonder and reason.
  • Books and Projects—from children’s books to LitRPG fiction to theological nonfiction—designed to challenge assumptions, awaken longing, and spark that unexpected joy Tolkien called eucatastrophe.
  • Teaching Tools & Reflections for those leading others in faith, especially in small towns and overlooked places.

If you’re drawn to stories that peel back the surface of things…
If you find yourself asking questions others try to avoid…
If you believe the Kingdom is coming—not abstractly, but with feet on the ground and fire in its bones…

Then you’re in the right place.
